have enjoyed drawing from an early age and in the late sixties became
interested in oil painting. In 1975 I decided to work with one medium
exclusively and very surprisingly chose "Pen & Ink". I did so
because of the ease and less expense of making prints, of which were
needed because of the time that my detailed drawings were taking. In 1982 I returned to drawing in graphite, my first and perhaps favorite medium. There is and no doubt will always be a fight within, a love of both color and black & white work. In the nineties I got into pastels but only if it were done on velour paper as I don't care for the dust and the same goes for charcoal. For the sake of detail, I worked with either hard pastel sticks or pencils. Neither were made in standard color colors and so I eventually quit because of the time and inablility to blend on velour paper. I discovered this year (07) that Nu Pastels were being made in standard colors for the most part so I may do some pastel work later. One of the biggest changes in my life occurred in 1977 when I participated in my first art show. I was amazed at the response to my work and from then on for many years, I was fortunate to have made my living as an artist of which I have enjoyed so much. For the last ten years or so, I have not participated in any shows, but I have continued with my art, working in a number of mediums including carving in wood and stone, but mostly working with graphite. I would like to possibly try making some Giclee prints in the future, which is needed so much, again because of the nature of my time consuming drawings. |
