I did my pastel work in the late 90's. I used hard pastels (Nu Pastel) and pastel pencils on gray velour paper.  Velour paper has a 'fuzzy' surface which is not conducive to detail work. I love detail but used it anyway because it holds the dust however you cannot blend after it is put on. I quit working working in pastel because of the lack of standard colors, which meant that I had to use a lot of odd colors on top of each other to achieve what I needed. This took extra time and effort.

I thought at the time that if standard colors were ever produced that I might return to pastels. I discovered this year that Nu Pastels has done so for the most part. Whether I return to pastels remains to be seen. At the is time I am thinking I would like to return to my old love of oils.
